I’ve been at finding my voice and trying to get what’s inside, outside, using 6 strings pulled to tension, for the better part of about 25 years now. I’m a bit of an eighties leftover, Olympiad-like in my early training,shred-a-licious in my glory, but with that, you'll find I'm always peeking into the rearview trying to distance myself from those same roots! Today, I'm most about conviction and trying to keep things real. I treasure organic tone, the kind that only burning tubes can provide and in my artistic pursuits, whether I'm performing, recording, or teaching, I'm always in search of IT! -what I call 'Improvisational Transcendence' -that moment when, during a solo, for just a short period of time, you rise above the structure, beyond the notes, and at once.. ...you become the moment.

Thank you for checking in on my home on the web!

Bio

Hailing from the rural suburbs of New England, cutting his teeth on the edgy eclectic music scenes stretching between Boston Ma, and Providence RI, this virtual unknown melodic shred guitar player knew he was on the right track when he was awarded the coveted "Berklee Performance Scholarship" in 1991. After attending Berklee College of Music and studying with such renowned teachers as Jon Finn, Hal Crook and Mike Williams, Scott went on to pursue a record deal with his original rock/metal band TYKA. After releasing their self-titled 4 song EP and supporting their release with performances all throughout the New England area, it wasn't until 1994 that national ambitions darkened; the 'Seattle/Grunge Scene' had exploded onto the culture, and the music business had changed overnight. In 1996 Motyka released his instrumental EP entitled, "Local-motive"; the album was a self-produced instrumental effort containing 4 tracks ranging from Satriani-like melodic rock to Neo-classical metal to 70's fusion. In late 2008, over a decade later Scott released "Cut.. ...From Within.", a close to the heart, hard-hitting collection of instrumental rock bringing together melodic shred guitar, progressive rock, and metal elements. In 2009, Motyka re-emerges fighting the battle for your mind, one note at a time. With his latest release and supporting power trio on deck, he asks the faint of heart to listen with courage, for his musical message, just may be.. ...the sound of everything you believe, becoming a lie. Interests

• I like spending time with family and friends, you'll find me often watching movies -blockbusters to indie films - I've been known to enjoy working out in the yard a bit. I like to read, converse and contemplate on all things philosophical, psychological, fuzzy-logical -I typically lean Eastern as in Taoist, in spiritual matters. I'm strangely attracted to about any word with an -'ism' at the end of it. Discussing comparative religion with me is much like wrestling with a pig in the mud.
• Over the last few years or so I discovered the enjoyment -
and the pain -of running -check out ChiRunning.com for where I'm at with it -I ran my 1st full 26.2 mile marathon October 18th 2009 at Mount Desert Island in Bar Harbor Maine, was fortunate enough land a bib and experience the amazing Boston Marathon in 2010, and now plan to go Ultra and run 40 miles for my 40th birthday near about Thanksgiving weekend!

Music

• If it’s done well, I’m game …sometimes you have to play really well to sound really bad. Artists currently in my cd changer are Tool, Train, Steve Morse, Allan Holdsworth, Primus, and Phish. ..and yes, a cd changer...you'd know it if you saw one, it's that thing collecting dust next to the 8-track player and the cassette deck at any local museum.

Movies

• Spinal Tap, The Warriors, Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory –original version, Texas Chain Saw Massacre –original version, The Matrix, The Fastest Indian, True Romance, Nightshift, The Incredibles, Lord of the Rings, 300, and many, many, more, of which all collectively would most certainly indicate a magnificent depth and worldly perspective, of which I must have, just by having sat on my rump and watched!

Television

• House, Niptuck, The Office, Wipeout, Criminal Minds, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist.

Books

• Anything written by Alan Watts, if had to choose just one, 'The Book: The Taboo on Knowing Who You Are', ...don't miss 'The Denial of Death' by Ernest Becker, 'The Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand, 'The Stand' by Stephen King, 'Buddhism Without Beliefs' by Stephen Batchelor, 'NonBelief and Evil' by Theodore Drange, 'The Wizard' by Deepak Chopra.

Heroes

• Alan Watts, Jimi Hendrix, Howard Stern our Armed Forces, most importantly, above them all...my son.
